Obituary: REV. MARCIA JAYNE McQUEEN


























































Rev. Marcia Jayne McQueen of Eden, NC died on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Gibson House.  She now resides with her Lord Jesus in that “place prepared” for her by Him, as promised in the fourteenth chapter of the Gospel of John. 

A service of remembrance will be held at 2 pm Friday, June 10, 2022, at Boone & Cooke, Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 pm before the service at the funeral home.

Born in Pinehurst, NC to Rev. James Carl McQueen, Jr., and Juanita Martin McQueen, she lived her school years in North Wilkesboro, Mt. Airy, Angier and Wadesboro.  After graduation from Campbell University, she taught elementary school and served a two-year term with the International Mission Board of the SBC in the Republic of Panama.  After completion of a Masters of Divinity degree with a Religious Education concentration, she served with Women’s Missionary Union of NC for over nine years.  During that time, she (being an ordained woman) changed her denominational affiliation to the more moderate Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.  Continuing her education, she attended the School of Pastoral Care at the WFU Baptist Medical Center completing a Chaplaincy Residency and earning the Richard K. Young Award for Outstanding Achievement in Ministry Formation in 1996.

Ordained to ministry by Woodhaven Baptist Church, Apex, NC in 1996, she served for eighteen years as a Healthcare chaplain in Rockingham County- four years at Hospice of Rockingham County, Inc. Wentworth, NC, fourteen years at Morehead Memorial Hospital (now UNC Rockingham), Eden, NC and less than one year at Legacy Hospice of Danville, Regional Medical Center, Danville, VA.  In 2003 Rev. McQueen became a Board-Certified Chaplain, Association of Professional Chaplains and in 2013 was honored by colleagues as the North Carolina Chaplains Association Chaplain of the Year.  She was interim pastor of First Baptist Church of Madison, NC from February through August 2006.  In retirement, she continued her ministry… retreat leadership, workshop leader, supply preacher and “community chaplain”.  She was a friend, mentor, life coach, and caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Juanita McQueen and sisters, Nancy McQueen Garrett (and her husband Jay) and Brenda McQueen Johnson.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Calvin Johnson; nephew and wife, Jim and Joni Johnson; niece and husband Cindy (Johnson) and Steve Huffman; great nephews, Caleb and Elijah Johnson; numerous special friends and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
