Obituary: REV. DR. WILLIAM B. DOZIER

Rev. Dr. William Biemann Dozier, 89, died Monday, November 13, 2023, at River Landing of Sandy Ridge’s Pebble Beach skilled nursing facility. He was born May 27, 1934, in Raleigh, NC, son of William Tate and Georgie Smith Dozier, both of whom predeceased him. His wife, Belva Jean Dozier, predeceased him as did his brother, Gary Dozier.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Stoneville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on Tuesday, November 21, at 11:00 am with family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. The spreading of his ashes will take place at a later time in a private service.

Survivors include his son, Gregory Dozier and partner Eric Smith of Durham, NC; his daughter, Lisa Barnette and husband, David of Summerfield, NC; two grandsons who were the spark plugs of his life, Lucas Barnette of Kansas and Texas, and Isaac Barnette of Summerfield, NC. His nephews, Douglas Dozier of Charlotte, NC, and Mark Dozier of Ponitz, Arizona, and his niece, Michelle Tuttle of Stoneville, NC, survive as well.

As a young man, Rev. Dozier earned the rank of Eagle Scout and the Chevalier Degree of the Order of DeMolay. A graduate of NC State University, Rev. Dozier had a fifteen-year career in forestry before attending Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, KY. Over the course of thirty-five years in ministry, he served five churches in three states as well as a national unit of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

If one wishes to honor the memory of Rev. Dozier, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lexington Theological Seminary, 230 Lexington Green Circle, Suite 300, Lexington, KY, 40508, or to the Boy Scouts of America, or to Week of Compassion, the relief, refugee, and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The family expresses much gratitude to the staff of Pebble Beach 1 for their care of and attention to Rev. Dozier.
