Obituary: RAYMOND WATKINS

Walter Raymond Watkins, 59, departed his earthly life on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at his home with loved ones by his side.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Danny Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and all other times at the home of his sister, 3841 Settle Bridge Rd, Stoneville.

Raymond was born on June 29, 1965 in Rockingham County. He found joy in reading and watching game shows on television and working with his hands. As a young man he was somewhat of a daredevil, but later in life he became a God fearing man. He was a hard worker, a good farmer, excellent carpenter, but most importantly he loved his family and they loved him.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Williams Cardwell; daughter, Brittany Watkins; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emerald Watkins. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Johnny Cardwell (Alicia), Scotty Watkins (Lisa) and Edward Watkins; sisters, Sheila Shively (David), Barbara Joyce (Tony), Amanda Dawn Cardwell and Michelle Swinarskr; step-brothers and step-sisters, Andy Murray, William Murray, Carolyn Murray and Sharon McKenny and many numerous nieces and nephews.

Raymond was preceded in death by his fathers, Walter Truman Watkins and Thomas Cardwell and his son, Michael Joseph Watkins, who was the light of his life.

Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
