Ravernell Wray Crouch, 87, of Mayodan, passed away peacefully at Cone Health Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville on March 21, 2025, and went to rejoice with our Lord in heaven.
Ravernell was born in Rockingham County on October 21, 1937, to the late John Wesley and Ruby O’Herald Wray. She worked in textiles for many years and then later retired from the NC Department of Social Services. Ravernell was a very strong woman with a lot of determination and grit as demonstrated many times over the years since surviving the Mayodan F3 tornado of 1998. She loved animals and took in every stray that wondered her way to ensure they were well cared for. Most of all, she loved caring for her special needs grandson for the past 39 years and pursuing every avenue for him to have the best life possible. She never left his side until the very end when her own debilitating health prevailed. She was comforted knowing he is well cared for now that her time has come to say goodbye until they meet again.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Ronnie Crouch; her brother, Roger Wray; her twin sister, Gaynelle Wray; 5 half-sisters, 4 half-brothers, and a very special friend, Raymond Biggs.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Danny Crouch (Donna) of Aberdeen, Rocky Crouch of Mayodan, Tina Brim (Roger) of Madison, and Joey Crouch (Sheila) of Walnut Cove; 8 grandchildren, Roger Dale Brim, Jr., Jessica Brim Anderson, Joshua Crouch (Nikita), Nathan Crouch, Destiny Crouch, Neveah Crouch, Jordan Crouch (Lorisa), Lesley Crouch Pinzon (Sal); and 13 great grandchildren, Leah, Levi, Julian, Preston, Weston, Kaylee, Piper, Peyton, Isabel, Noah, Evan, Fiona, and Ian.
Special thanks to the Ancora Compassionate Care team in Wentworth for their outstanding support during this time.
In lieu of flowers, she asks that memorials be made to the Rockingham County Animal Shelter, 250 Cherokee Camp Road, Reidsville, NC 27320 or to Ancora Compassionate Care, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
