With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Paul Stevie Shelton. Steve joined our Lord at the age of 78 on Friday, January 17, 2025. A man of great strength, intensity and humor, Steve leaves a bigger than life impression and a void for all who knew him.
Born in Stokes County on July 9, 1946, to the late Paul Pendleton Shelton and Nancy Mozelle Shelton, Steve grew up caring for his siblings after school while working on their farm and for others. A dedicated son, he took fierce care of his widowed mother as her health demands increased with the same intensity that he approached everything.
The last of his parents’ children to pass, Steve is preceded in death by Carolyn Shelton Smith, Wesley Shelton, and Donnie Lee Shelton.
Steve’s work ethic was very dominant, and he had a career that was far ranging from heating and air, metal sign design, construction, and roofing. Customized sheet metal turned out to be his specialty craft with his creativity, precision, and attention to detail. Steve stood out in his field and operated his own company in Greensboro, NC for over 30 years with special requests often for his work. Projects were not about the volume of work, but his quality of work.
Steve’s love for children and family was very strong. He enjoyed spending time with family. He leaves behind his sons, Steven Ross Shelton and Stephen Welch (Lovie); his daughters, Paula McBride (Dwayne), Stephanie Dunlap (Erick), April Delane Shelton, and Christian Blythe Shelton. His 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who will miss his fun antics when putting together their toys, riding four wheelers, sledding, setting off fireworks, many scary voices, and the jokes he told for their laughter. Family time was the only time he relaxed and was not rushed nor driven.
A visitation will be offered to spend time with family and share memories of Steve from 2-4 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison, NC. We would love to hear your favorite memories of Steve either online or during the visitation hours.
