Obituary: PAUL RAY “CHILI” CHILTON

Paul Ray “Chili” Chilton, 66, of Eden, passed away peacefully at the Gibson House on April 16, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was surrounded by family and friends as he departed into his heavenly home.

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8

A funeral service will be held at 11am, Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden, with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 5-7pm, at Fair Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and family at other times at the home of Audrey Chilton, 214 Clifton St, Eden, NC 27288.

Paul was born on June 5, 1956 to the late Raymond Roger Chilton and Mollie Odell Chilton. At a young age, Paul learned about the Bible and the teachings of the Word. He grew up developing a love for fast cars, many of which were built by his own hands. Paul was well known for his mechanical abilities. Thus, leading him to become a parts pro at Advanced Auto Parts in Eden for over 10 years.

Paul was a beloved father and grandfather. He devoted a lot of his time being an active part in his grandchildren’s lives.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Angela Crawford, and her mother, Audrey Chilton; son-in-law, Michael Crawford; grandchildren, Mallory Long, Maegan Taylor, Taylor Crawford, Mackenzie Crawford, and Bryson Crawford; sister, Gayle Hand of Reidsville, NC; brothers, Forrest Chilton of Madison, NC, Dale Chilton (Pam) and Gary Chilton of Eden, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Chevy Ray.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Chilton Lanier; brothers, Ronald Chilton, Steven Chilton, and Randy Chilton.

A special thanks to his niece, Brandi Chilton Knight, for her love and devotion.

The family would like to thank the compassionate and forbearing caregivers on the specialized care unit at Jacobs Creek Nursing and Rehab, as well as a special thanks to Hospice of Rockingham County.
