Patricia Martin Carter “Pat Rat”, to many, 69, left this earthly life Monday, March 20, 2023, at home doing what she enjoyed at the end of the day, sitting on the couch eating popcorn and reading a book.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m., and all other times at the residence. Inurnment will follow at the Sandy Ridge Christian Church Cemetery.

Pat was born December 15, 1953, in Stokes County, to the late Frank Porter Martin and Lottie Ethel Joyce Martin. Pat was a graduate of North Stokes High School ( 1972) and was Valedictorian of her class. She was a member of Sandy Ridge Christian Church. Pat was very active in the church throughout the years, singing in the choir, member of the church trio, planning events, serving meals, Easter egg hunts, decorating and cleaning the church. What ever the church needed Pat was available. She had an active card ministry mailed throughout to community to family, shut-ins, and neighbors for every occasion. She was a farmer and worked in the field and housed tobacco beside her brother Glenn, nephews, and migrant workers. Pat was a caregiver to many, especially her sisters Shelby, Judy, Mattie Ruth and brother Glenn. Whenever there was a need, Pat was there to help financially. She never boasted yet was willing to help anyone in need.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Odell, Russell, and Glenn Martin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mozelle (Sam) Amos, Mattie Ruth (Alan) Neal, Barbara (J.D.) Williams, Judy (Melvin Gary) Shelton; brother-in-law, Daniel Williams; niece, Shannon Shelton, and a special friend, Dwight Prillaman, and many special cousins and friends.

Pat is survived by a brother, Harvey Martin; sisters, Shelby Williams, Marie Knight (Mike), and Dot Carter (Bobby); sister-in-law, Ann Martin, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, she loved.
