Obituary: PATRICIA “ANN” CARTER JOYCE

Patricia “Ann” Carter Joyce, 81, of Madison, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Moses Cone Hospital.

A 3:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Oak Grove Baptist church with Rev. Randy Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday night, January 27, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home.

Ann was born in Rockingham County on January 17, 1941, to the late Lawrence Carter and Sallie Smith Bateman. She attended both Oak Grove Baptist Church and Woodbine Baptist Church. She was proud to receive her cosmetology license and worked as a hairdresser for many years. She adored her mother and stepfather.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Gale “Berlin” Joyce; her stepfather, Wesley Brooks Bateman; her sisters, Betty Carol Shively and Alice Faye Wilson; her half-brother, Larry Carter, Jr.; and her grandson, Nicholas Jarrett.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Louann Joyce of Madison, Pamela Joyce of Greensboro, and Christopher Berlin Joyce (Robert Taylor) of Winston Salem; her uncle, Calvin Smith of Eden; three great grandchildren, Brockman Jarrett, Maddox Jarrett, and Axel Jarrett; and a granddaughter-in-law, Candace Neely.

The family would like to thank Ann’s caregivers, Jasmine Dalton, Tammy Dalton, Amanda Monita, and Willie Ann Saner Plowman for their assistance and support.
