
Pastor Donald Welsey Cox, Sr. 78, of Eden went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Gibson House.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Boone & Cooke, Inc. Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 pm Wednesday before the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Donald was born in Asheboro on January 14, 1944, a son of Ray Emory Cox and Catherine McCormick Cox, both deceased. He was formerly a supervisor for Pike Electrical. He also served his Lord as Pastor of Joyful Baptist Church for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Cox and Walter Cox; his sister, Joenell Cox; his half-brothers, Boyd Cox, Danny Cox and William Cox; and his half-sisters, Janet Earles and Jean McCormick.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Irene Cox; his children, Donald Cox, Jr. and wife Sharon, and Libby Cox Manuel and husband Shane; his half-brother, Benny Cox; his half-sisters, Darlene Wagoner and Diana Gray; and his grandchildren, Kaleb Overby and girlfriend, Macie Merricks, Lindsey Cox and Lauren Cox.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the many healthcare providers who took excellent care of Pastor Cox during his illness; Dr. Stephen Burdine and his nurse Carla, his therapist at Advanced Health Care, Jennifer, the staff of Hospice of Rockingham County and especially the nurses and staff of the Gibson House.
