Ms. Oreta Dawkins Cardwell departed this life on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.
As a native and resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina for the majority of her life, she attended the local public schools and was a former employee of Arby Care. Being of the Christian faith, she enjoyed sewing, making quilts and blankets.
Her parents, Irene Smith Dawkins and Woodrow Hayes Dawkins; beloved husband, Robert Cardwell; siblings, Joann Gaines, William Thomas and Dorothy Totten, preceded her in death. Survivors are: son, Frank Dawkins; god daughter, Samethia Bowden (George); sisters, Eloise Davis, Gracie Williams, Sheneva Booker (Alvin), Mattie Dawkins, Emily Ziglar (Clarence) and Brenda Dawkins; brothers, Bishop Woodrow Dawkins and Clarence Dawkins; special caregiver, Carla Mitchell; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2023 from the chapel of Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street with Rev. Billy Inge presiding. Public viewing will be Saturday afternoon at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street.
