Opal Irene Stark Foley

Daughter of the late Lena Maude Cosens Stark and Lloyd Newton Stark of Harper County, Kansas, Opal was the ninth of 10 children.

There will be no formal service for Ms. Foley.

Opal’s career centered around retail. She worked in the office at Grants Department Store, then worked on the floor. After Grants closed in Eden, she went to work for Cato’s for seven years until she became manager of the store in Eden Mall. She also worked in the sanding room at Bassett Furniture in Martinsville for seven years. After having surgery on her back, she retired in 1998.

She met her husband, Patrick County, Va. native James Marshall Foley, in 1956 while he was living in Wichita, Kansas. They were married March 6, 1957 and moved to Eden in 1958. Marshall died Jan. 3, 2015.

They had two sons, Donald Lee Foley, who survives, and Russell Lewis Foley, who died at age 13-1/2 when he drowned in a farm pond north of Eden.

Opal also is survived by a grandson, Russell L. Foley of Reidsville, brothers, Russell Stark of Newton, Kansas, and Dale Stark of Nampa, Idaho, and several nieces and nephews.

She was a long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in numerous capacities over the years.
