Mr. Norman Hughes Williams, 96, passed into heavenly peace on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Torrey Easler officiating. Interment will follow at the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023, prior to the funeral service.
A Rockingham County native, Norman was born May 30, 1926, the son of Edward and Mary Hatcher Williams. He attended Mayodan High School and was a member of Mayodan’s First Baptist Church. His faith in God and His promises gave him assurance of the eternal home he now knows. Norman loved working the soil, planting and harvesting vegetables to enjoy and share. His hobbies included watching old western movies, raising beagle puppies and rabbit hunting. He loved the sound of the beagles hot on the scent.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 70 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Atkins Williams and brother Thomas D. Williams.
Norman is survived by two sons, Tony Williams (Leitha) of Gibsonville and Brantley Williams (Joyce) of Summerfield; three grandchildren, April Williams, Derek Williams (Devan) and Haley Young (Lawson) and two great-grandchildren, Kendall and Abigayle. He is also survived by twin sisters, Lucille Wray and Louise Knight of Mayodan.
The family extends special thanks to the nurses at Hospice of Rockingham County for care provided to Norman and the family.
