Mrs. Nellie Scales Herbin, the beloved wife of Mamion Herbin, departed this life on Saturday evening, December 24, 2022.
As a native and lifelong resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina, she attended the local public schools and was a graduate of Charles Drew High School, Class of 1961. Spiritually, she was a faithful member of Guiding Light Apostolic Church where she served as Mother of the Church, member of the Board of Ushers, Sunday School and was the Church Secretary. Mother Herbin was a retiree of the Rockingham County School System and was a member of the Reidsville Downtown Senior Citizens. During her leisure, she enjoyed cooking, shopping, collecting photographs, spending time with her grandchildren and watching sports.
Her parents, Nellie Brown Scales and Dennis Scales; siblings, Gladys Herbin, Marie Webster and James Scales, preceded her in death.
Survivors are: beloved husband of 59 years, Mamion Herbin; daughters, Donna Renee Herbin and Teresa Herbin; sons, David Herbin, Dennis Herbin (Tracey) and Melvin Herbin (Stephanie); 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Brown; brother, William “Wig” Scales; sister-in-law, Beatrice Tucker; brother-in-law, Ronnie Herbin; special friend, Elder Larry Hairston; other relatives and friends.
Special appreciation is extended to Hospice of Rockingham and the staff of UNC Rockingham Hospital of Eden.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2023 from the Shiloh Baptist Church, 7236 US Highway 29 Business with Elder Bell Noble presiding and Pastor William Hairston, eulogist. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. at the church.
