Mrs. Nellie Hester Chavis, age 88, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at her residence.
Public viewing will begin on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 12 until 5 p.m. at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 3701 Heath Avenue, Greensboro, NC.
The committal and interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greensboro, NC.
Mrs. Chavis was born in Orange County, NC on January 1, 1937 to the late Walter Hester and Lucy Tapp Hester.
For many years she as a Teacher’s Aide in the Guilford County School System.
She was a longtime member at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Missionary and was apart of the Choir, Usher Board.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bedford Chavis; son, Minister Steven Douglas Chavis.
Survivors include sons, Darryl Dwayne Chavis, Jerry Mathews Chavis and Bernard Chavis; sister, Emma Sue Pettiford; 4 grandchildren, Brandon, Tiffany, Ashley and Erika; 2 great-grandchildren, Cayden and Brianna; sister-in-law, Dianne Chavis; a host of relatives and friends.
