Nathaniel Allen Fitts (Nate), age 30, of Cascade, VA passed away October 23rd, 2023 at Carillon Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA surrounded by his family and many friends. He succumbed to injuries from an accident that occurred October 13th.
Nate was a graduate of Morehead High School in Eden and of Rockingham Community College with a welding certificate. He enjoyed living and working on the family farm in Cascade. He loved old cars, rescued dogs, and tinkering with tractors and trucks.
One of his final decisions was to become an organ donor in order to help others. In his last days, he remained dedicated to his family and showed remarkable courage and strength despite his situation.
In February of this year, he and his wife, Taylor welcomed a daughter, Maisie Lynn. Nathaniel was a dedicated father and doted on his “Mai Squirrel.” It was a joy to everyone who loved him to see him with her.
Nathaniel is survived by his wife Taylor, son Grant King and daughter Maisie Fitts of the home, mother Jennie Fitts Fulton (Tom) of Eden, sister Ann Fitts of Cary, brother Aaron Fulton (Jamie) of Eden, Uncle Sandy Fitts (Karen), and cousin Kasey Fitts of Lebanon, Tennessee. Nathaniel was preceded in death by his father, Harry Jones Fitts, paternal grandparents Sanford and Gary Ann Fitts, and maternal grandparents Garnet and Virginia Smart.
The family would like to make a special acknowledgement of many friends’ support during Nathaniel’s hospital stay, including Ashley Rippey, Jon and Kaitlyn Curry, Jimmy Strader and Leah Joyce, Sam Gover, Butch and Cassidy Gover, Troy Pratt and Jordan Wray, and Wallace Dishmon.
The family would like to thank all nurses, respiratory therapists and staff, and especially Nurse Claire who was so kind in her care.
Family and friends will gather later this week to hold a service to celebrate Nathaniel’s life. Please contact a member of the family for details if you wish to attend.
