The committal and interment will follow in Eden Gardens Cemetery, Eden, NC.
She was born to Lizzie Mae Millner Gravely and James Monroe Gravely on November 25, 1933. She was the second oldest girl out of four children for the couple. Nancy grew up in the Oregon Hill community and attended Chapel Hill Elementary. In 1952, she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Desiring to further her education, she worked for the Humphrey Family, local factories, and earned enough money to pay her way through beauty school. In 1957, Nancy graduated with her license in cosmetology from the Maco Beauty School in Greensboro, North Carolina. After graduating, she worked at Ida’s Beauty Shop in Reidsville part time and continued to work in local factories until she married Raymond C. Gannaway. After the death of her husband Raymond C. Gannaway, Nancy went to Rockingham Community College and earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
Nancy took great pride in her family and was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren: Jasmine Gannaway, Taylor Gannaway-Nicholson, Jada Gannaway, Isaiah Gannaway, Morgan Antionette Gannaway Hodge, and Isaac Gannaway.
Nancy Jane accepted Christ and became a member of Little Salem Christian Church around the age of 12. She was a faithful servant of the Lord. She later became a dedicated member of Little Bethlehem Christian Church in Eden, North Carolina, where she served on the Board of Ushers and the Women’s Missionary Board. Nancy was an avid believer who emulated the word and character of God. Her genuine and kind spirit touched many.
In her leisure, Nancy enjoyed cooking, gardening, watching Family Feud, and most importantly spending time with her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. Gannaway; her parents, Lizzie and James Gravely; sister Elizabeth Gravely Martin, and her granddaughter, Morgan Antionette Gannaway Hodge.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two children, Grant and Kelly Gannaway; five grandchildren; Jasmine Gannaway, Taylor Gannaway-Nicholson (Jared), Jada Gannaway, Isaiah Gannaway, and Isaac Gannaway; five great-children; Justin Gannaway, Ayden Petty, Amyla Petty, Bryson Nicholson, Mason Nicholson, and Baby Girl Nicholson; sisters, Ethel Gravely Perkins and Jimmie Gravely; brother, Bentley Mills. Nancy also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A special thanks to Elaine Courts, Jennifer and the Joyce Foundation, Ancora Compassionate Care, and the staff at Gibson House.
