Nancy Gail Huffman Burris, 72, of Stoneville, North Carolina, passed away on April 19, 2025, at Moses Cone Hospital after a brief but serious battle with pneumonia.

Nancy was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and cherished friend. She spent 25 years serving her community as a special education teacher in Rockingham County, where she made a lasting impact on countless students and families.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert (Bob) Burris; her children, Mandy and Joshua; her sister, Susan; and her beloved grandchildren, Nate and Isabelle.

Nancy was known for her fierce love of family and friends. She had a deep passion for skiing earlier in life and was an incredibly talented artist. Her creative talents included painting, stained glass, quilting, and just about any craft she put her hands to. In recent years, she enjoyed playing pickleball and spending time with those she loved most. Nancy spent as much time as she could with her grandchildren, spoiling them rotten and giving them enough love for ten lifetimes.

Her warmth, creativity, and strength will be remembered by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rockingham County Partnership for Children and/or Ancora Compassionate Care.
