Michael Wayne Cummings departed this life on Thursday morning, August 10, 2023.
As a native and lifelong resident of Guilford County, North Carolina, he attended the local public schools and was a former member of the Greensboro Trucking Club. Spiritually, he was a resolute member of Saint Thomas Pentecostal Holiness Church where he actively served with the Board of Trustee and the Male Chorus. As a member of the Parking Committee, he took pride in parking cars at church events. Following many years of laboring, he retired from the Sears Corporation and the Guilford County School System. During his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, visiting the beach and meeting his Sears retirees for fellowship/meal at the Golden Corral. His favorite eatery was Herbie’s Restaurant. While a resident at Carillon Assisted Living, he developed a special bond with the staff and residents. We thank God for Michael’s Christian life of love, compassion and service. His parents, Helen Mae Parker Cummings and Odell Cummings; sister, Linda Mae Cummings, preceded him in death. Survivors are: loving children, Lenina Maynard, Tamiko Reid and Gregory Cummings; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Sylvester Cummings (Marie); special friend, Rosa Jordan; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from the Saint Thomas Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, 633 Highway 150 with Bishop-Elect L. Bernard Florence presiding. The family visitation will be Wednesday from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Public viewing with be Tuesday afternoon at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street, Reidsville.
