Michael Leonard Acord, 77, died on Friday, May 19, 2023.
Mike was born and raised in southern West Virginia, and was proud to call it his home. He passed away in North Carolina with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer. Mike was a devoted Christian and always had his family covered in his daily prayer. He was a proud Army veteran who truly loved his country. He was a jack of all trades and could fix absolutely anything. If anyone had a question, he would always find the answer and help, no matter the issue. Mike was a world-class belt conveyor engineer and lived by the saying “an honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work.” He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. He truly loved his family, including many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis Acord and Mabel Elizabeth Carte Acord; sister-in-law, JoAnn Elkins; brother-in-law, Jim Bench and nephew, Jimmy Bench.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Sue Acord; children, Chris Acord (Danielle) of Stoneville and Jamie Lawrence (Sean) of Madison; grandchildren, Taylor Lawrence, Tylor Lawrence, Cooper Acord and Dax Acord; brothers, Larry Acord (Linda) of Temperance, Michigan and Bill Acord (Sandy) of Beaver, West Virginia; sister, Sharon Bench of St. Petersburg, Florida; and his beloved dog, Cleo.
Per his request, no formal services will be held. Mike will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Danville, Virginia.
