Obituary: MICHAEL D. MURPHY

Michael “Mike” Murphy, age 78 of Eden, passed away from natural causes on January 28, 2025 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. He was born on November 3, 1946 in Surry County to Marvin & Kathleen Murphy.

Mike was a Veteran of the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. He was a retired North Carolina State Highway Patrol Officer. He also worked as a United States Marshal in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was an instructor at Rockingham Community College in the Basic Law Enforcement Training program. Throughout his careers he made several life long friends. He and his wife, Sheri, met in the county jail…while she worked as a dispatcher at the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office. They later married in September of 1984.

Mike had three things he loved most; his family, his Savior, and having a generous heart. Mike loved his Lord Jesus and placed his faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection. His love for others and generous heart were all because of what Jesus did for him. He loved spending time and playing with his grandchildren who he dearly loved. He loved to give to others and made a habit of making everyone he met feel seen and important. Mike was a member of Osborne Baptist Church in Eden where he attended for years both in person and online, when his health prohibited him from attending in person.

He is survived by his wife, Sheri; three children, Kevin, Angie, and Ryan Murphy (Tiffany) and his grandchildren; Channing, Cody, Logan, Judah, Olive, and Georgia Murphy. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son Christopher Murphy.

A Service to Celebrate his Life will be held Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Osborne Baptist Church at 3 PM.
