Melvin Gary Shelton, 71, left this earthly life Friday, October 14, 2022, to be re-united with his beloved wife, daughter, and many loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2022, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. Interment will follow in the Sandy Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the funeral home and other times at the home of Chad and Crystal Shelton.
He was a lifelong resident of Rockingham County. He attended Stoneville High School, was a member of Christian View Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as a deacon and past treasurer of the Men’s Ministry. He enjoyed farming and logging and owning his own operation for both throughout the years. He was employed with Shelton’s Logging and Chipping for the last 30+ years.
Gary was adept at fixing things, and innovative in figuring out how to make things work.
He was an example of hard work and honesty.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Martin Shelton; daughter, Shannon Gail Shelton; parents, Buford Ernest and Gracie Nance Shelton; brothers, Jimmie Frank. Shelton and Ernest Lee Shelton; sisters, Katie S. Hundley, Lena S. Whitlow, Lola Pearl S. Bowman, and Ruby S. Harvey Crowder; nephews, James and Jerry Hundley, Sarah Crowder, Ernest “Ernie” Ray Shelton; sister-in-law, Linda Plaster Shelton.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Crystal Shelton; daughter, Melanie S. Murphy; grandchildren, Samuel Logan Murphy, Lola Grace Shelton, and Waylon Cade Shelton; brothers, Billy Shelton (Linda); David Shelton (Lenora); sisters, Lorine Jarrett and Linda Shelton; sister-in-law, Myra Dunn Shelton, and former son-in-law, Kevin Murphy. Also left to cherish his memory is a special nephew, Brian Shelton and many nephews and nieces; and many in-laws, Shelby Martin Williams, Marie Martin Knight, Pat Martin Carter, Dot Martin Carter, and Harvey Martin.
