Obituary: MAURICE DONTA VERNON

Maurice Donta Vernon “Don” was born August 8, 1967, in Rockingham County to the late James Vernon Jr. and Katie S. Vernon. On Monday evening, June 19, 2023, as the sun began to set, he departed this earthly life and went home to be with the Lord.

A 2:00 p.m. Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at the Refuge in Mayodan. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church.

Don was a graduate of Stoneville High School. After which he enlisted in the US Army and later became a Chef. He loved to show off his cooking skills, cracking jokes, and talking junk but more than that he loved his family.

Don is preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Katie Vernon, three brothers Lemar Lowe, Curtis Lowe and Greg Foddrell; three sisters Revonda Dowdle, Sheila Vernon and Patricia Nicholson. Father and Mother-in-law: Charles and Bertha Myers, two brother-in-laws: Kelvin Myers and Sidney Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Calister M Vernon; six children; Shaun Dalton (Dietra)-Fayetteville NC, Cherris Dalton- Knoxville TN, Timmy Dalton (Marie) – Mocksville NC, Jasmaine Vernon (DeMarcus) -Knoxville TN, Damien Vernon- Madison NC, Quay Vernon-Madison NC, Chaniesta Myers-Knoxville TN, and Wakita (Lucky) Clark-Knoxville TN.

Siblings- Jeffrey Vernon, Jerome Vernon (Angie), John Vernon (Alice), Keith Vernon (Kitty), Marie Whitehead, Jennifer Roberts (Floyd), Kathryn Carter, Daryl Moore, DeJim Lowe (Michelle), Denise Conyers, Tracy Moore, Cathy Austin (Eric), Charles Dalton, Chris Dalton, Kurt Dalton (Jamie), Glen Lowe (Shelley), and Joanna Lowe.

Grandchildren: Kyeisha Dalton, Keyontrie’ Dalton, Alexis Galloway, De’Nasia Lowery, DeMarcus Lowery Jr., Shaunia Dalton, Isaiah Dalton, Isaac Dalton, Taylor Vernon, Kaine Reid, Kodi Reid, Jalaysia Myers, Jarez Nance, Lucky Clark II and Jace Clark. One great grandchild: Jakyrie Myers; two sisters in laws: Sherrie Brown and Letia Myers; two brother-in-laws: Charles Myers (Wanda), Shannon Myers (Kim) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
