With heavy hearts, we announce that Mary Ruth Wall, known to many as Gurfie, or to her grandkids as Nana, has passed away at the age of 79 on March 4, 2023.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, March 6th, at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Colonial Funeral Home & Chapel in Madison, before proceeding to the cemetery.
Nana lived a fulfilling life with her husband, our papa, Jimmy, her children David and Patrick, and us, her grandchildren, Brittany and Ashton. She touched the lives of many during her many years of service at Gem Dandy and Burlington Industries. She was a woman of faith and an active member of her community at Mount Hermon United Methodist Church.
Nana was the best grandmother anyone could hope for and had so much love to give. The endless field trips and beach trips she took us on, not to mention us being the garden helpers. Weekends at Nana’s were the highlight of our childhoods. Any time we stayed over, we woke up to a huge breakfast and Nana was sure to have our bellies full anytime we were with her. Thanks to Nana, we were brought up surrounded by lots of love and taught to be kind and giving to others.
She is survived by her husband of 59+ years, Jimmy Wall of the home; sons, David Wall (Leslie) of Madison and Patrick Wall of High Point; two granddaughters, Dr. Brittany Wall of Los Angeles, CA and Ashton Wall of Madison; her sister, Louise J. Harter of Madison; along with sisters-in-law, Rebecca Ore Joyce and Phyllis R. Joyce.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, L. J. Joyce, Roby Joyce and Paul Ray Joyce.
