The committal and interment will follow in the New Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery, Ruffin, NC.
She was devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Mary was born March 1, 1952, in Rockingham County, NC, the daughter of John Wesley Pinnix and Martha Lawson Pinnix. She was the third child of ten children. “Nean” as she was affectionately called, she was always ready to help her family and cared for her siblings, her daughter, parents, grandson, nieces and nephews.
Mary attended the Rockingham County Schools System, after school she met her husband Virgil “Pookie” Singleton, and they joined in holy matrimony 1976. This union produced a beautiful daughter.
To know Mary is to love her. After her mother passed, she became the matriarch “the glue that held the Pinnix family together”. No matter how far away we moved we all went home to Mary’s house. With welcoming arms, she hosted family gatherings. When she wasn’t hosting family gatherings, her home was a place of refuge or just a place to visit to reminisce about the good times and those who had passed on in our family. Her absence will be truly felt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Virgil “Pookie” Singleton (husband); brothers John (Booger), James (Squeaky), William (Ricky), Robert, Larry, Richard, Lorenza, and Roger. Along with several aunts and uncles.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: Sandra Singleton (daughter), Rashawn Singleton (grandson) of the home, sister Betty (Henry) Alverson; sisters-in-law Annie Pinnix, Valerie Wheeler-Pinnix, Wylene Pinnix; aunt, Gillie Pinnix; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
