Mary Magdaline Goins Hickman, “Granny Mag to many”, 92, left this earthly life peacefully Monday, November 7, 2022, at Jacob’s Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Madison, NC surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Victory Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow at the Harris Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel.

   Mag was born on October 12, 1930, in Rockingham County. She was a past employee of Lefty’s of Mayodan, 220 Restaurant, Stoneville Furniture, and farming. She loved spending time with her family and was known for her good cooking. She attended Victory Hill Pentecostal Church while her health permitted.

   She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosie Anne Goins; husband, Jesse James Hickman; sons, Melvin, James (Lucy), Junior, Tommy (Carolyn), and Darrell; daughters, Maxine Nance, Eunice Goins (Tony “T-Boy) and Loretta Hickman; sons-in-law, Bernard “Buster” Joyce and Bobby Nance; brothers, Robert, Fletcher, Charlie, Curtis, Omie, and Junior Goins; sisters, Viola Goins, Bess Richardson, and Rosie Hickman.

   Survivors include a son, Gene Hickman; daughters, Anna Nance and Juanita Joyce; grandchildren, Bobby “Boo” Nance, Neal Nance, JJ Adkins, Jerry Adkins, Debra Sizemore, Gail Durham, Lisa Goins, Gabriel Nance, Billy Hickman, Ricky Hickman, Brandon Johnson, Charity Murray, Tammy Hodge, and Teresa Diaz; great-grandchildren, Tanner Sizemore, Natalie Riggs, Merisa Lungrin, Nate Murray, Gabi Nance, Reagan Hickman, Aston Jarrell, Tabitha Goins, Vanessa Goins, Austin Gravely, Lucy Adkins, Joshua Adkins, Nettie Alvarez, Eleno Diaz, Chandler Sizemore, Taylor Durham, Skylar Murray, Chris Tovar, Mabry Hickman, Atlee Hickman, AJ Goins, Shauna Goins, TJ Goins, Cierra Gravely, Samantha Adkins, Diana Adkins, James Paschal, and Loegan Clifton; twenty eight great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Betty Hickman; son-in-law, Joel Nance; special room mate at Jacob’s Creek, Martha Purgason; and many nieces and nephews.

   A special thanks is extended to the staff of Jacob’s Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation for their care and concern.
