Mary Lily Watlington, 101, died peacefully on October 13, 2022, at her home in Casville, N.C.
She was the daughter of James Bracken Watlington and Lucy King Watlington. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn W. Fagan, of Laurens, S.C., her nieces, Anne Justice, Betsey Mayhew (Jack), and Kay Carey (Lee), nephew Dr. Roy Fagan (Mary) of Reidsville, and 7 grandnieces/nephews and their families, and her longtime dedicated caregiver, Janice Harris.
She is predeceased by her sisters, Margaret W. Reed and Farish W. Justice, and nephew John W. Justice III (Donna).
Mary Lily was born on November 23, 1920, the eldest of 4 daughters. She was a graduate of Greensboro College and taught school in Selma and Greensboro until returning home in 1953 to manage the family farm. She was an avid reader, traveler and music lover. She was a faithful member and elder of Bethesda Presbyterian Church and served as the church organist for many years. She was a member of the Tuesday Afternoon Book Club and drove for Meals on Wheels until her eyesight failed. She was devoted to her family, friends and neighbors and will be sorely missed.
The family is grateful to Lorene Anglero and Brenda Totten for their loving care.
In accordance with her wishes, a graveside service will be held at Greenview Cemetery in Reidsville, at 11am on Saturday, October 15, 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 216 Cemetery Rd., Ruffin, N.C., 27326, or a charity of your choice.
