Mary Ellen Frye Gardner, 94, left this earthly life on Monday, December 26, 2022 after a prolonged illness.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Love’s United Methodist Church in Walkertown. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the celebration of life and a short interment in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Gardner was born on November 13, 1928 in Forsyth County to the late Clyde Harold Frye and Lena Pope Frye. Mary worked for the City of Winston-Salem as a Payroll Clerk until she retired in 1989. She spend her entire life in downtown Winston-Salem from working at the bus station to working for city employees processing payroll checks. She was a member of Love’s United Methodist Church in Walkertown and was involved in various church activities there for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Gardner.
Survivors include her sons, David Gardner (age 66) of Winston-Salem and Christopher Gardner (age 54) and his wife, Kelly and granddaughter, Julianna Gardner (age 13) of Jacksonville, Florida.
Mary was extremely grateful for the volunteers at Meals on Wheels, who brought both meals and smiling faces to her door for the past several years. Mary’s family would like to thank Trellis Hospice for their support the last seven months of Mary’s illness.
