Martha Payne Alley, 91, died on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Gibson House Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Kallam Grove Christian Church with Reverend Donald Haynes and Reverend Jason Reid officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mrs. Alley was born on December 19, 1931 in Rockingham County to the late Thomas Jess Payne and Mamie Velma McBride Payne. For forty-two years, Martha worked in the banking business, retiring from First Union Bank in Madison. She was a member of Kallam Grove Christian Church and enjoyed her flower garden, traveling to the beach and reading. Martha will always be remembered for taking such wonderful care of her entire family, especially her beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Milton O. Alley; son, Milton “Mickey” O. Alley, Jr.; sisters, Mildred Apple, Dorothy Moore and Virginia Rakestraw and brothers, John Robert Payne and William Lacy Payne.
Survivors include her son, Michael Alley (Jennifer); grandchildren, Moses Alley, Jessica Alley Loredo (Bhrayan) and Jacob Alley; great-grandchildren, Wren and Emery Loredo; step-grandchildren, Sam Stephenson (Amber) and Will Stephenson; step-great-grandchild, Ryleigh Stephenson and special nieces, Carol Sue Knight and Debra Edlin and many extended family members and friends.
The family wishes to thank caregivers, Amy Alberts and Debra Edlin for the loving attention given to Martha.
