Marjorie Waynick Simpson, 87, of the Midway community passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Marjorie was born in Rockingham County to the late Roy and Ila Adkins Waynick. She was an operating room nurse at Wesley Long Community Hospital for over 20 years and later retired from Annie Penn Hospital as the Director of the Operating Room and Endoscopy Department. Her dedicated service led to the hospital recognizing her by awarding a deserving employee each year with the Marjorie Simpson Surgical Services Award for Professional Excellence. She was a longtime and faithful member of Midway United Methodist Church. Always in charge, Marjorie expected excellence at every turn. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking. No one ever left her table hungry and if you did, it was your own fault. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Homer Simpson, Jr.; sisters Frances Faucette and Wallace Anne Patterson; brothers Roy Penn Waynick and Wilbur Lee Waynick.
Marjorie is survived by her children Bill Simpson and Serena Alton, Daniel Simpson, and Grace Simpson and husband James Hammonds, Jr.; grandchildren Jessica Friddle and husband Houston, and Jacob Simpson; great grandchildren Kolton Paschal and Macy Friddle; sisters in law Nancy Wheless and Patsy Waynick; brother-in-law Dougald Patterson; and a large extended family. The family would like to thank her special caregivers Hariett Spaulding and Tamonica Brown, Dr. Roy Fagan and staff.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors’ choice.
