Obituary: MARIE MIDDLETON SOUTHERN

Marie Middleton Southern, 86, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 at Wesley Long Hospital.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, November 26, 2022 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Elder David Minter officiating. Interment will follow in the Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Southern was born on December 22, 1935 in Rockingham County to the late Jesse Aaron Middleton and Lucy Mildred Lemons Middleton. Marie was a 1954 graduate of Stokesdale High School and attended Sardis Primitive Baptist Church. She retired from Fieldcrest Cannon-Pillowtex with thirty-five years of service as an Administrative Assistant in the accounting department. In her retirement, Marie enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband, Jay and dancing. She will forever be remembered for her delicious biscuits, her giving spirit and for being a second mother to her special siblings.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Percy “Jay” Southern and two brothers, David L. Middleton, Sr. and Charles S. Middleton, Sr.

She is survived by her sister, Sarah M. Sidbury of Pleasant Garden; brothers, Thomas L. Middleton and wife, Mary Louise of Stokesdale, Allen A. Middleton and wife, Norma of Stokesdale and Steven M. Middleton and wife, Lori of Greensboro and a host special extended family members. Marie deeply loved her family.
