Malcolm R. Hathaway, Jr., died on August 25, 2022, surrounded by family. He started life in the small coastal town of Mattapoisett, MA. Raised by his father Mac Sr, he and his brother Brad worked on their father’s cranberry bog until he graduated high school, and he entered the United States Air Force. There he met our mom, his future bride. They married and moved back to her home state of New York and proceeded to grow their brood of 5 children.

Our dad lived a big and full life as an engineer for the pulp and paper industry for over 40 years. His job allotted him the opportunity to meet so many people who became lifelong friends and travel the world across 6 of the 7 continents. He saw so many of the great wonders of the world, the Great Wall of China, and the Amazon River, and was able to bring my mom on several of those trips.

He grew restless in retirement and started participating in the Senior Olympics games winning multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals. As my parents explored retirement, they started traveling around the US glamping in their RV and eventually settling in Green Valley, AZ. He continued to participate in the Senior Olympics in AZ. While in AZ he enjoyed his many weekly golf games with the “old guys” and daily swim training sessions. My parents finally relocated to North Carolina to be closer to family.

One of his greatest joys was telling stories of his youth and adventures aboard to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father Malcolm R Hathaway Sr, his mother Helen Stevens Hathaway, and his grandson Jackson Cooper Brulotte. He leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Patsy; his brother Brad, and children Jon-Reed, Jackie, Debbie, Mac, and Liz. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren,16 great-grandchildren, several brothers-in-law, sister-in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements entrusted to Triad Cremation and Funeral Service of Greensboro, NC.
