Macel Elizabeth Martin Jones, age 102 of Eden, NC passed away at her home surrounded by her family on July 11, 2024.
Macel was born April 4, 1922 in Patrick County, VA to the late Moir James Martin and Gertrude Bowman Martin. She graduated from Leaksville High School and retired from Dupont in Martinsville, VA. Macel loved her church and was the last living charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Eden, NC. She loved to travel and it was a dream come true when she toured the Hawaiian Islands. She loved nothing more than riding out on Lake Gaston to hook a fish with her son and grandson.
Macel is survived by her son, Richard G. Jones, Jr. and wife Debbie of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren, Stephanie Jones (John) with their children, John III, Mason, and Sydnie; Kelli Jones and her children, Abigayle, Alyssa, and Brayden; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Macel is preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. Jones, Sr.; sisters, Evelyn Amburn, Myrtle Martin Wray, Olene Martin Barns, Marie Martin Younts, Hazel Horton, Margie Price, Rachel Flynn, and Jackie Whitt; and her only grandson, Richard G. Jones, III.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1151 Virginia St, Eden, NC 27288.
Macel had written the following note:
“Special thanks to my caring friends over the years, Julia and Jerry Slaughter, Keith and Angela Elliot, and Ricky and Avis Minter. Also to my dear caretakers, Kay Coleman and Taylor Hopkins. Friends are a blessing from God.”
