Lorene Lawrence, 87 of Ruffin passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, August 14, 2023. at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Warner officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service and other times at the family home. The burial will follow the service at Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Lorene was born in Rockingham County to the late Harry Robert Tate and Nellie Myrtle Jarrell. She loved to create and make things beautiful. Her passion was working with her hands whether in her nature garden, painting wood crafts, or sewing. She was so loving, giving, and talented. Mamma Renie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Many have enjoyed the delicious home cooked meals from her table, especially her homemade biscuits. Most of all, she loved her family; she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Debra Boulding, Elaine Smith; brothers, Robert Tate, Dewey Tate, John “Monk” Tate, Cecil Tate; and stepsister, Betty T. Ellington.

Mamma Rennie is survived by her husband of 70 years, Dewey Lawrence; children, Vanessa Brown, Duane Lawrence (Karen), Tammie Stophel (Chuck), Ricky Lawrence; grandchildren, Melissa Tillman (Greg); Tara Ferrell (Makiyo), Kyle Lawrence, Justin Brown (Kelly), Amber Kernodle (Chad), and Bridget Smith (Brandon); Great Grandchildren, Dylan, Easton, Hadley, Abby, Henry, Elizabeth, Henry, Aleece, Benjamin, and Hailey; siblings, Bessie Tate Sparks, George Tate (Cindy); stepbrother, Wayne Tate (Betty); Stepsister, Glenda Tate Gunn (Starling) as well as a large and loving group of extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Hospice of Rockingham County at PO Box 281 Wentworth, NC 27375.
