Obituary: LOIS “JEAN” AKERS

< br/>

Lois “Jean” Akers, 84, of Stokesdale, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 11, 2023. Jean was at her residence, where she had been surrounded by, and vigilantly cared for, by her family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 1-1:45 PM, with the funeral ceremony to follow at 2:00 PM, at the Colonial Funeral Home and Chapel in Madison, NC. The interment will immediately follow the funeral ceremony at the Oak Level Baptist Church Cemetery in Stokesdale.

Jean was born to the late Earl Stevenson and Ocie Faye Clevinger Stevenson, in Grundy, VA. She and her family moved to Danville, VA, where she met James F. Akers of Indian Valley, VA, and they began their 63 year marriage.

Jean truly dedicated her life to taking care of her family, friends, and countless others that were in need. If she could help … she would! She also enjoyed cooking, baking cakes, and was a long-time member of the Oak Level Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her siblings, James E. Stevenson of Check, VA, and Ruby E. Stevenson of Danville, VA. Surviving siblings include Shirley A. Fain and George Pete Stevenson of Danville, VA, as well as Donny H. Stevenson of Richmond, VA. Jean was also preceded in death by her grandson, Jacob Akers.

Surviving immediate family members include her husband, James F. Akers, her son and his family, James Dwayne Akers, wife Angela Akers, granddaughter Victoria Elizabeth Akers and Skylar (her fiancé). Also surviving are her son and his family, Jody L. Akers, wife Angie H. Akers, and grandson Logan Alexander Akers.

Jean would want her countless extended family members and friends to know that she loves each one of you! She would also want to thank the Hospice of Rockingham County members, and ask that you send donations to them in lieu of flowers.

Get ready Lord, one of your best and most faithful is … COMING HOME!
