Obituary: LILLIE MAE COBB ZIGLAR

Lillie Mae Cobb Ziglar, 94, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Annie Penn Hospital.

A 12:00 noon funeral service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Ray Funeral Home with Hospice Chaplain Hunter Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hermon Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. and all other times at her home.

Lillie Mae was born in Guilford County on October 1, 1929, to the late George David and Bertha Ritter Cobb. She loved God and was a devoted member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church where she served in several different roles with her last being providing two pots of her personal garden flowers placed in the sanctuary for 17 years. Lillie Mae was an awesome homemaker and had a multitude of hobbies including baking, quilting, sewing, gardening, especially buttercups, and she loved nature. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who always tried to give to her community. Lillie Mae was known for her Doublemint gum and her favorite farewell was, “I love you, a Bushel and a Peck, and a hug around the neck”.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John Talmadge “Tal” Ziglar; her daughter, Evelyn Ziglar Blake; seven brothers and two sisters; and her great granddaughter, Norah Smitherman.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Dr. Jerry T. Ziglar and wife Vickie of Yadkinville, Kay Ziglar of Winston Salem, and Bobby Talmadge Ziglar of Madison; her grandchildren, Jennifer Smitherman and husband Rodney of East Bend, Nissa Ziglar Talley and husband Chris of Mooresville, Dr. Stephanie Ziglar Furey of Jacksonville, Florida, Johanna Blake Parker and husband Jim of Raleigh, and John R. Blake and wife Mandy of Spencer; great grandchildren, Miah Smitherman and Annah Smitherman of East Bend, Jackson Talley and Spencer Talley of Mooresville, Evie Blake and Julian Blake of Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the flower fund at Mt. Hermon Methodist Church, 8011 NC-704, Madison, NC 27025.
