Lewis Junior Evans, 92, of Stoneville, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Annie Penn Hospital.
A 2:00 p.m. graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 24, at Joyce Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 150 Chapel Road, Stoneville, NC 27048, with Pastor Boyd Joyce officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. For those wishing to pay their respects, he will lie in state at Ray Funeral Home on Monday, October 23, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Junior was born in Rockingham County on December 19, 1930, to the late Dewitt and Grace Joyce Evans. He was a hard worker, working as an independent truck driver for over 50 years up until the age of 82. Junior loved trucking and being his own mechanic and received multiple safe driving awards. He loved his family and enjoyed gardening, bluegrass music, and watching racing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Minnie Lee Sands Evans and his second wife, Ann Webster Evans.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Jimmy Evans (Fonda) of Mayodan and Nancy Evans Joyce (Tony) of Stoneville; and two grandchildren, Summer Purdy (Adam) and Brooke Joyce (Brandon Griffin).
