Lewis Holland Jeffries passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 4th, 2024 at 93 years old. His quiet, hardworking spirit will be dearly missed by all who know him.
Lewis was born August 14th, 1930 in Axton, Virginia, to the late Charles P. Jeffries and Nellie Holland Lowe. He grew up on his grandfather’s farm before moving to Draper, N.C. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Ann Gilbert Jeffries, and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage and had three children and five grandchildren.
Lewis served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class. He was deployed to France during the Korean War and was honorably discharged before heading home to work at Fieldcrest Mills. When he retired from the blanket department, he was a much-loved supervisor. Much of who he was he learned from his close friends Jack and Flora Gammons who served as mentor and guides to him throughout his adolescence and adulthood. He was a man who loved a good project and could often be found in his workshop fixing or repairing something. He had a kind heart and always looked to serve others.
Lewis is survived by his children, Jimmy Jeffries (Tammy) of Eden; Sandra Schultz (Mike) of Greensboro; and Gilbert Jeffries (Maureen) of Glen Rock, N.J.; grandchildren, Sarah Ann Schultz, Tyler Gainey (Brian), Andrew Schultz (Janie), Spencer Jeffries, and Nathaniel Jeffries; sister, Jeanette Bowling; and special niece Penny Hopkins, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, Arthur L. Lowe, Lewis is preceded in death by his beloved wife Ann, who passed in 2023.
At the end of his life, Lewis was well cared for by many community caregivers as well as caregivers from Aging, Disability, and Transit Services and Ancora Compassionate Care (Hospice) of Rockingham County.
