He was a supervisor at Madison Throwing Company and Burlington Industries and later retired from Unifi Distribution Center. After retirement he filled his spare time with part-time jobs, driving a barbeque delivery truck for Fuzzy’s and later thirteen years at Ray Funeral Home. He attended Mayodan First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was previously a Mayodan Volunteer Fireman, a member of Mayodan Lions Club, and served on Boy Scout Troop #562 Eagle Scout Board of Review. He served thirty-seven years on the Mayodan Town Council. He was 1999 Western Rockingham Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
