Obituary: LEONARD RAY RHODES

Leonard Ray Rhodes, 80, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, May 29, 2025 surrounded by his loving family at Beacon Place Hospice Home.

A memorial service will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2025 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Randy Roberts, and Clifton Rhodes officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the church, and other times at the residence.

Ray was born June 8, 1944 in Rockingham County to the late Morris Clifton Rhodes, and Margaret Tilley Rhodes. He worked for 33 years as a truck driver for Allied Systems. Ray was a devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a member of the cemetery committee, and a member of the building and grounds committee.

In addition to his biological parents, he was preceded in death by his father, Gid Mabe; mother, Gussie Mabe; sister, Betty Lou Mabe; and four brothers, Dixon Mabe, Lindy Mabe, Edison Mabe, and James Rhodes.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Rhodes; son, Edward “Ray” Rhodes (Shanda); daughters, Tina Rhodes, and Toni Rhodes; brother, Clifton Rhodes (Gladys); grandchildren, Melody Johnson, Clifton Johnson (Casey), Caitlin Rhodes, Cassidy Rhodes; and great-grandchildren, Wray Johnson, Madison Roberts, Joshua Roberts, and Noah Roberts.
