Mrs. Laura Mauney Murphy, the beloved wife of Jerome Murphy, departed this life on Sunday evening, January 22, 2023.
She was a native of Forsyth County and a resident of Guilford County since 1985. Attending the local public schools of Winston-Salem, she was a graduate of Atkins High School, Class of 1958 and pursued further education at North Carolina A & T State University in Greensboro. Following an illustrious career of many years of service, she retired the IBM Corporation and American Express. Spiritually, she was a former member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. As a lady of enormous talent, she operated Silk Arrangements Plus; was a skilled gardener, decorator and artist. Laura was blessed with a charismatic personality and was loved by all who knew her. As the ultimate socialite, she enjoyed dancing and was the life of the party. She was a member of the Flexibles and the Social Promoters.
Her parents, Minnie Bynum Mauney and Robert A. Mauney; siblings, Barbara Jean Mauney, Minnie Mauney Powell, Daisy Ann Mauney Taylor, Robert A. Mauney, Jr. and Charles Edwin Mauney, preceded her in death.
Survivors are: beloved husband of 53 years, Jerome Murphy; daughters, Gina Bryant, Lesa Yvonne Williams, Marlys Ratliffe (William Edward) and Alana Moser (Brian); grandchildren, Dr. Laura Bryant, Taura Bryant, Capt. Kaura Bryant, Sanaa Ratliffe and William Ratliffe, III; sisters-in-law, Annie Neal (Dr. James) and Irma Stone; special friends, Barbara L. Johnson (James); other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held privately. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 2 until 5 p.m. at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street, Reidsville.
