Kathleen Nelson Manuel, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at Gibson House Hospice.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at True Gospel Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Smith and Reverend Brian Scotton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at the home of her daughter, Lynn M. Conner.

Mrs. Manuel was born on February 12, 1932 in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Russell Nelson and Nina Ellis Nelson. Kathleen, along with her husband, Fletcher accepted Christ as their Savior on May 5, 1957. She was a dedicated pastor’s wife to her beloved husband and to the congregation of True Gospel Baptist Church for thirty years. For more than forty years, she supported him as a preacher’s wife, where she stuck by his side traveling near and far, as well as cooking for and hosting many friends during their many years in ministry. She played the piano and organ at True Gospel for many years, as well as serving as Church Treasurer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Reverend Fletcher Manuel and her brother, Oris B. Nelson.

Survivors include her daughters, Darlene Bryant and Lynn M. Conner (Marlon Price); grandchildren, Lyndsay Kathleen Conner and Devin Lee Conner (Jennifer Conner); great-grandchildren, Keilan Lee Conner and Codi Layne Conner; sister, Evadean N. Cardwell; niece, Diana N. Sparks and nephews, Jeff Cardwell (Terri) and Dwayne Nelson (Sherri).

The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Ancora Compassionate Care (Hospice of Rockingham County) for their love and attention.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the True Gospel Christian School, 4710 NC Hwy 704, Madison, NC 27025.
