Karl “Duane” Overby Sr., 83, of Ruffin, went home to be with the Lord, peacefully, at his home on Friday, February 24th, surrounded by adoring Family.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Duane was born in Rockingham County to the late Robert and Beulah Overby. In 1960 he met the Love of his life, Jeanette, and shortly after marriage served in the United States Army. After serving, he became an electrician in the IBEW until he retired and farmed for many years after.
He was known everywhere for his cowboy hat and boots. He loved playing poker, farming, telling jokes and tall tales to young family, but most of all, he loved God and his Family very dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Beulah Overby, his brothers, Elmer Lee Overby, Gerald Overby, Ronnie Overby, and sister Evelyn Light.
He is survived by his Loving wife of 60 years, Jeanette, daughter, Tammy Cordova (Temo), son, Karl Overby Jr., grandsons, Mikey Morelli (Beth), Karl Overby III, granddaughter, Noemi Ragan (Greg), great grandkids, Gavin, Liam, Wyatt, Mackenzie, one great-great grandson, Declan, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to his dear nephew Brad Overby and wife Holly for taking special care of him in his last days and reading scripture to keep him comfortable and to hear the word of God for his final moments.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
