Judge Ander Pierce, 85, of Reidsville, NC went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13, 2022.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 11am at First Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC with Dr. Harry Smith and Rev. Dave Huggins officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens.
A native of Ashe County, he was a son of the late John Henry Pierce III and Myrtle Clyde Miller Pierce. He had resided in Rockingham County since 1964. Before moving to the area, he served in both the US Marine Corps and the Army National Guard, and also worked for the California Department of Agriculture. He was employed as an Agricultural Extension Agent, working with 4-H and community resource development where he was presented the National Association of County Agricultural Agents Distinguished Service Award. He quickly got involved in civic activities when he moved to Rockingham County and was a part of the Reidsville Jaycees, where he served as president and was elected as the State Director. He volunteered in many organizations over the years including: The Salvation Army, where he was a former Chairman and Lifetime Member of the Board, the First Baptist Church of Reidsville as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, the Rockingham County Board of Elections, the Rockingham County Board of Social Services – Health and Human Services Chair, the Reidsville Chamber of Commerce as President, RCC Foundation Board as a former Chair and Emeritus Board of Directors, United Way of Rockingham County, the Reidsville Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, and was a Wentworth School PTA President. Judge helped organize volunteer fire departments in Rockingham County, and was a charter member of the Reidsville YMCA where he was instrumental in the fundraising and planning for the Y. In July 2020, he was named “Outstanding Volunteer of the Month” by the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners. Judge was a graduate of NC State University where he earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees and was a life-long Wolfpack fan. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. One of his favorite hobbies was tending cattle, which he loved to share with his grandchildren to teach them life lessons and help with their educational pursuits. He was an avid reader and the author of an autobiography titled Tough Road to the Top. He never met a stranger and delighted in helping others. He is preceded in death by brothers: John Henry Pierce IV and Hoke Pierce; and sisters: Ruth Bata, Una Crist, and Vada Locklear.
He will be dearly missed by his wife who has been the love of his life for 57 years: Betty Crissman Pierce of the home (a native of Siloam); four cherished daughters: Andrea Fox (Buford) and Rosiland Jones (Jay) both of Eden, Christina Wood (Chris) of Stoneville, and Kathryn Patterson (Alex) of Greensboro; 10 grandchildren: Amber Fox, Zachary Fox (Colleen), Mallory Westman (Clay), Fortune Krause (Matt), Brock Fox (Taylor) Sierra Jones, Jordan Wood, Micaela Patterson, Hannah Wood, and Brenna Patterson; 3 great grandchildren: Theodore Krause, Juliet Krause, and Sawyer Judge Fox; brothers: Vel Pierce (Cathy) and Archie Pierce (Carolyn) both of West Jefferson, Howard Pierce (Brenda) of Wilkesboro, Zane Pierce (Jane) of Abingdon, VA, Larry Pierce (Shirley) of Reidsville; and his sister: Avis Graybeal (Joe) of Charlotte; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The family will see friends 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 17, 2022 at First Baptist Church and at other times at the residence.
