Joe Melvin, 67, left this earthly life Friday, January 20, 2023, at his home surrounded by his wife and children.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2023, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. The family will receive friends beginning at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on March 6, 1955. Joe moved his family to North Carolina in 1988, and fell in love with the beauty and opportunities around him. He worked hard as a skilled welder/fabricator to provide for his family. He was known by many as “the Fix-it man” as he had the talent and knowledge to fix most anything.
Joe enjoyed hunting, gardening, camping, and loved music and helping others. Most of all, he was a family man who loved his children and grandchildren. His time with family was usually a mix of fun and another project.
He was preceded in death by his parents Don (Bub) Melvin and Mary Jo Melvin, and Ellen Papinchock (his biological mother).
Left to share his memories are his wife, Debbie of 50 years; son, Andrew (Laura); daughter, Amanda Melvin Joyce; sisters, Jenean Melvin; Susan Entwisle (Frank); brothers, Mike Papinchock (Amy), Bill Papinchock (Cheryl), David Cooley (Brenda); grandchildren, Brooke Joyce, Blake, Elizabeth and Amelia Melvin; several nieces and nephews, and special cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Annie Penn Cancer floor, Mayo Christian Church, Trellis Supportive Care (Stokes County Team), and nurse Savanna for the love and devotion throughout Joe’s journey and end of life care.
Memorials may be made to Ft. Knox Chapter 1st Cavalry, c/o Larry Whelan, 2103 Winston Ave, Louisville, KY 40205 or Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
