John Willie Scales departed this life on Friday morning, September 22, 2023.
As a native and lifelong resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina for the majority of his life, he attended the local public schools and was an affiliate of West End Baptist Church. “Ronnie”, as he was affectionately referred by family and close friends, was a retired brick mason by trade. During his leisure, he enjoyed socializing, listening to music, playing basketball and was a talented in drawing and poetry.
His parents, Lois Pinnix Harris and Odell H. Scales, Sr.; step-father, James Edward; siblings, Nancy Delores Scales Courts, Antionette Cobb, Nell Jean Pinnix, Jerry Pinnix, Evon Harris and James “Candy” Pinnix, preceded him in death.
Survivors are: mother, Ella Ann Henderson Galloway; sisters, Madeline Spencer, Tammy Simpson (Zachary) and Avon Poteat (Robert); brothers, Odell Scales, Jr., George Harris, Timmy Harris, Jimmy Harris, Antonio Harris and Wayne Harris (Elizabeth); special nephew, Brandon Spencer; special cousins, Hazel Bolden (Cecil), Edith Blackwell (Melvin) and Wilma Thacker; former sister-in-law, Debra Scales; devoted friend, Kevin Harris; additional nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from the chapel of Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street with Pastor Reginald Cook presiding. The family may be contacted at 2515 South Scales Street, the residence of Zachary and Tammy Harris Simpson. His remains are in the care of Johnson & Sons.
