Mr. John William Wilson, Sr. passed away Wednesday morning, August 17, 2022 in Reidsville, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at Bluestone Missionary Baptist Church with family visitation one half hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at Bluestone Church Cemetery with public visitation being held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel.

John William Wilson, Sr. was born on February 4, 1958, to the late, Albert E. Wilson, Sr. and Nettie W. Wilson. John, affectionately known as “Popeye” or “Pops”, left a lasting impression with everyone he encountered. He spent most of his adult life as a loyal employee to W.L. Pryor at Pryor Grain Company of Ruffin, NC. He was known as a quiet and humble spirit but made the most noise as the “Kobe Bryant” of any local basketball court. Everyone looked forward to playing with him. His infectious laugh and kind heart will be remembered forever.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by: his high school sweetheart and wife of 20+ years, Irma Wilson; sisters, Barbara Dalton, Thelma Powell, Edith Goth and Virginia Wilson; and brothers, Walton Wilson Sr., Lonnell Wilson, Harry Wilson, and Albert Lorenzo Wilson.

He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Amanda Wilson (Marlo) of Eden, NC and Destiny Hunt of Reidsville, NC; one son, John W. Wilson, Jr of Reidsville, NC; granddaughters, Agi’yana Wilson, Emma Wilson, Angel Madkins, Nylisha Madkins, Ciara Madkins, Ahcosha Madkins, and Gabrielle Madkins; grandson, Ky’Mani Wilson; great grandaughter, A’neiya Johnson; sisters, Dora Walker and Shirley Weeks (Dennis); brother, Bobby Wilson (Sarah); nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of relatives and close friends.

Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. Covid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
