Obituary: JOHN MICHAEL YEAGER

Mr. John Michael Yeager went home to be cradled in his parents’ arms again on Wednesday morning, August 24, 2022 at the Durham Veterans Administration Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with family visitation from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel, 721 E. Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.

John was the seventh child of the late William Edward Yeager, Sr. and Margaret Thomas Yeager of Louisville, Kentucky. After serving his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force, John attended Jefferson Community College in Louisville, KY studying Business. Thereafter, he pursued a very long career in sales and the electronics field. He was employed with several companies as a salesperson including Dixie Hi Fi, The Appliance Store and Custom Car Audio in Erie, PA as well as Radio Shack, managing stores in Louisville, KY, Erie, PA, Ashtabula, OH and Cuyahoga, OH.

While at Custom Car Audio, he became interested in car audio competitions. In, 1992, he competed in the finals of the U.S. Auto Sound Competition (USAC) and in 1994, he received an invitation to participate in the International Auto Sound Invitational Finals (IASCA) in Dallas, TX where he ranked 3rd in the nation.

In 1995, John made Reidsville, NC his home and worked at Now Audio/Video in Greensboro, NC and BTR in Reidsville, NC before opening JoJaVon Urban and Casual Wear store in 1999. He served the community through his business for 10 years until his health began to slow his pace.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, William Edward Yeager, Jr., Phillip Douglas Yeager and Thomas Stephen Yeager; and sisters, Cheryl Yeager Lundy and Elyse Yeager Phillips.

Those left to cherish heartfelt memories are: son, Vonzell Yeager (Melissa) of Charleston, SC, former wife, H. Jamane Yeager of Reidsville, NC; sister, Brenda Yeager Bolton of Altamonte Springs, FL; sister-in-law, Juanita Gibson of Sanford, FL; brother-in-law, William Lundy of Fayetteville, NC; adopted brother, Hugh Smith of Louisville, KY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. Covid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
