John Irvin Ross, age 75, died peacefully in his home on September 11, 2022. He is survived by his children, Samantha Joh Ross, of Asheboro, NC and his son, John David Ross, of Burlington, NC; along with his sister, Myra Ross Moore (Van), of Reidsville. In addition, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews survive John. He was born on March 9, 1947 in Reidsville, to James Preston Ross and Mary Hearp Ross, who preceded him in death.
He was a 1965 graduate of Reidsville Senior High, where he was a proficient band member and a member of the wrestling team. In addition, he was an accomplished singer who sang with a beloved local band, the El Rays. He later graduated from NC State with a psychology degree and held several corporate roles in personnel, before eventually opening his own business. John was a military veteran and was especially proud of his service in the Marine Corp.
As a member of Cornerstone Community Church, John attended regularly, as his health allowed. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and had a deep appreciation for all forms of music. His family and friends will always remember him as a passionate advocate for the underprivileged with a warm and affirming personality.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2pm on Sunday, September 18th, at Cornerstone Community Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Steve Housewright will be officiating. The family expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Callie Housewright, his beloved friend, for her selfless devotion and care. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or Cornerstone Community Church.
