Joe Dock Tipton, 90, of Mayodan, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at his home.
An 11:00 a.m. funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Covenant Grace Church, 4600 Lake Brandt Road, Greensboro, NC 27455, with Pastors Tom Brown and Mack Strawbridge officiating. Burial will follow at Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, April 11, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home.
Joe was born in Michell County, NC on February 22, 1934, to the late Lonas and Myra Masters Tipton. He worked maintenance and retired from Southern Steel and Wire after many years. Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was loved by everyone who knew him. He loved nature, the outdoors, gardening, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, the UNC Tarheels, and the Carolina Panthers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Tipton; his sisters, Louis Hobson, Nell Hicks, and Faye Hughes; and his brothers, Frank and Ralph Tipton.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Anna Nell Tomlinson Tipton of the home; his children, Stephen Tipton (Angela) of Mayodan and Amy Barton (Sam Schultz) of Greensboro; his brother, Wayne Tipton of Winston Salem; his sister, Peggy Huscroft of Tennessee; four grandchildren, Ace Tipton, Trent Tipton, Zakk Tipton, and Christal Barton (Spencer Melvin); and his dog, Lily.
