Joan King Grogan, 94, passed away Thursday evening, July 21, 2022, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, July 25th, at Colonial Funeral Home & Chapel with burial to follow in Woodland Cemetery in Madison. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service (11 am to 1 pm) in the chapel and other times at the residence.

Joan was born March 15, 1928. She was a Rockingham County, NC native born to the late Carter Frank King and Minnie Taylor King. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Madison and was a graduate of Draughn Business College in Winston-Salem. Joan retired from Stoneville Furniture Company after 47 years of service.

She is survived by her son, Wendell “Hornor” Grogan and wife, Joyce; granddaughter, Elizabeth Grogan; great-grandson, Owen Grogan Alvarado; many special nieces and nephews; caregivers, Julie Daniel’s, Dorothy Townes, Sabrenna Manuel; along with her special friends, Dale Sparks, Pam and Terry Hill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hornor Wendell Grogan; son, Norman Keith Grogan; brothers, Carter Frank King, Jr. and Tommy Milton King; sisters, Minnie King Belton, Margaret King Knight and Doris King Claybrook and sister-in-law, Wanda Grogan Grim.

Memorial contributions may be made to Madison Rescue Squad or to First Baptist Church in Madison.
